When your goods arrive in Australia, they must pass customs before they can be released for delivery. Customs clearance is handled by the Australian Border Force, and it affects your delivery time, total landed cost, and legal responsibility as the importer. You usually do not need an import license to bring goods into Australia.

For most goods valued at AUD 1,000 or less, duties, taxes, and import charges are usually not collected at the border. For shipments above AUD 1,000, you must complete import clearance and pay the relevant GST, duty, and other charges unless an exemption applies.

If customs questions the value of your shipment, they may request Evidence of Money Price Paid, also called EMPP. This means you may need to provide invoices, payment proof, product links, sales contracts, orders, or other documents that prove the real value of the goods.
